ah i see! yeah having a similar art style does help a lot, the art/gifs makes everything cohesive and well connected!
that's true! though width hasn't been that big of a problem generally 450-500 px feels fine to me, however the problem is the height which makes implementing character renders really difficult since i need to basically shrink them to oblivion while making sure the quality of the render remains good, there's also render placements which makes me question a lot of my design decisions haha! sometimes the render just takes up a lot of space to put other elements in and if you shrink it more the quality goes down and the render might look weird. yeah the banner getting cluttered is kinda unavoidable, layering them in a way feels right does help a lot though yeah it really depends on the element whether it's match the aesthetic and blend in or not.
hmm that's true, it's just i tend to be kinda perfectionist when it's a bigger project like a set/layout which is kinda why the banner that i'll show you in a minute has been in works for this long haha! though yeah it's not a good habit to have since creating and putting stuff out there is the best way to improve, i just need to find that middle ground where i can create something and be happy with it without spending way too much time on it haha!
yeah considering we only got dark mode last year which was rather poorly implemented as it messed some forum sets iirc, it's being held together by duct tape and glue lol! but yeah it's likely something that's on low priority considering aside from people who make custom layouts/profile about me, most people wouldn't really need a preview button there. ah i see thanks! i'll look them up!
yeah i completely get that! it's like the idea is right there you can picture it perfectly but putting it on a canvas and making it look how you want it to is just really difficult sometimes. currently i can't seem to figure out where to place the ft. name tag since it seem to the clashing with the cards, since i had to lower the opacity of the background to make the lighting work but now the threads are the main background element which i am not sure if it looks good or not, here's the banner:

that's true! often times my lighting/element placement can be too aggressive since utilizing space in a limited space like in a forum signature is still very new to me haha! taking a step back does help a lot. yeah that's like one of the things that keeps motivating me to get better, like for example my top favorite series are violet evergarden and one piece i am not making anything around them until i feel like i've reached that point, i kinda fear of creating something that doesn't live up to that haha!
yeah i feel like preview section should be a priority, it doesn't make sense why there isn't one yet considering there's one for signatures. oh i see! thanks i'll keep that in mind when i make the layout! (though will need to figure out the aspect ratios of the embedded video and cutting a section of the layout haha!).
yeah exactly! like for example i've been working on a 1 banner forum signature (the ones that usually are in the contests) and it's been in works for months now haha! i am kinda stumped but have spent too much time and energy on it to back out now. i am slowly getting through it currently, hopefully it'll be done before next month. similar to layout it's the not knowing how to approach/implement an idea in a new format that messed me up, and this also went through like 4 different iterations with completely different characters. meanwhile i have this beidou pirate forum set idea and an acheron set idea floating in my head haha!

yeah sometimes it's just difficult to figure out the background, i think your style of using artwork as background is super unique and cool though! yup it's easier to make but custom background just enhances the lighting, elements and cohesiveness that nothing else could. haha it's a struggle indeed! especially designing the background which can be a mess since i always fear that i'll overdesign it with effects and patterns that doesn't match it well. yeah it's just fun to create cool stuff for shows/characters that i like! oof that sounds like a nightmare, bbcode can be really complicated and clunky to work with, and i don't think the profile section even has a preview mode so it's very much a "hope everything works as intended" approach. i'll probably have to deal with bbcode soon as i plan to use a video player in the next layout, not looking forward to that haha! yeah that's true! though it's the main about me text that's apparently difficult to read. which makes sense since i cranked up the glow effect by a lot haha! will keep that in mind for the next one. i did use aesthetic text in the last half of the layout since i thought they would work well to fill space in between everything. ah thanks! yeah hopefully it'll be better! yup it's like i need to finish this project but my motivation is on working on some other new project, it can be annoying

I can assure you it was unintentional but nonetheless I have no excuses for my behavior :') something probably kept me busy irl and I lost track of my online interactions... happens from time to time and I probably lost a million online friendships this way :sob: so, thanks for rekindling our connection :'D

mmm in some ways it's definitely more stressful but in other ways it's more liberating as well. I don't have to listen to other people telling me exactly what to do anymore and *uno_reverse_card.jpg* I'm actually training others now at the same place, which I actually find to be a lot of fun when I see myself reflected in them not too long ago haha.

yup exactly! the start is always the most difficult part especially the background since that's the foundation of the layout, getting that right was tough. inspiration does help a lot with it though which is nice since as i worked on the layout it turned into it's own thing, however understanding what elements might work for my projects is something i struggle with. yeah that feeling of being creatively fulfilled is amazing, it makes going through all the nightmares worth it, ah i haven't had to deal with the difficult bbcode yet but i've heard that it can be a nightmare to work with for layouts especially animated ones. yeah it's super helpful to be able to ask for advice otherwise i'd probably still be stuck at the layout haha! also having someone else look at your work is really important, like for example some people have told me that the text in my layout is difficult to read which i didn't notice at all since i looked at it for 3 months i know what's written there, so yeah having a fresh pair of eyes to check is really good from my experience. yeah whenever inspiration strikes i feel like working on something right away! though that ends up delay the stuff that i was already working on haha! currently i've been practicing getting better at taking inspiration and utilizing the elements correctly, i plan to make a frieren layout but i want to get better first before tackling a big project again, since they can take a while i'd like them to be better than my previous works.

as for myself I'm still busy working haha albeit no longer a student anymore, and work has become more fun too. I've also picked up some new hobbies, went through ups and downs, and other stuff along the way but it's hard to talk about them without word-vomiting unnecessary paragraphs of stuff :D I hope you've been well too!

yeah also planning how to structure everything and what elements to use can be a nightmare at the beginning, okita also barely had any gfx edits so getting inspiration for the layout was difficult. though despite how difficult layouts can be, it feels really good to finish a project of this scale. ah thank you i really appreciate that! i am happy it doesn't give off a beginner layout vibe haha! a lot of the credit goes to my friend this wouldn't have been possible without their guidance. yeah at the time i wasn't sure which character i wanted to make a layout around so i tried saber alter and bocchi but once i realized how long a layout can take and that you need to have a going amount of knowledge to make an element that relates to the character i switched to okita since i knew more about her and she's technically the reason i even got into designing haha! (the friend i mentioned made me an okita pfp back in the day which made me interested in editing/designing)
